Gems from Quran

Change of gears...

Many times you read from Quran and you are amazed at the vastness of a ayah. These verses are really gems, encompassing important concepts. I will just like to compile a list of such verses, as much as Allah helps me to. Hopefully it will be beneficial for me and anyone else who reads them: (all of what is below is borrowed from http://quran.com/ )

This is one of the most moving ayaat.

Surat Al-Ĥadīd (The Iron) - 16 - سورة الحديد

Sahih International
Has the time not come for those who have believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allah and what has come down of the truth? And let them not be like those who were given the Scripture before, and a long period passed over them, so their hearts hardened; and many of them are defiantly disobedient.

Discusses that religion is not just about rituals

Surat Al-Baqarah (The Cow) - سورة البقرة - 177

Sahih International

Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but [true] righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah , the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets and gives wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler, those who ask [for help], and for freeing slaves; [and who] establishes prayer and gives zakah; [those who] fulfill their promise when they promise; and [those who] are patient in poverty and hardship and during battle. Those are the ones who have been true, and it is those who are the righteous.

This is used as a definition of Zuhd

Surat Al-Ĥadīd (The Iron) - 23 - سورة الحديد

Sahih International
In order that you not despair over what has eluded you and not exult [in pride] over what He has given you. And Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful -

Believer and unbelievers will get what they work for, these are the laws of Allah

Surat Hūd (Hud) -15/16 سورة هود

Sahih International
Whoever desires the life of this world and its adornments - We fully repay them for their deeds therein, and they therein will not be deprived.

Those are the ones for whom there is not in the Hereafter but the Fire. And lost is what they did therein, and worthless is what they used to do.

Our Weaknesses

Surat 'Āli `Imrān (Family of Imran) -14- سورة آل عمران

Sahih International
Beautified for people is the love of that which they desire - of women and sons, heaped-up sums of gold and silver, fine branded horses, and cattle and tilled land. That is the enjoyment of worldly life, but Allah has with Him the best return.

The real love of Allah

Surat 'Āli `Imrān (Family of Imran) -31- سورة آل عمران

Sahih International
Say, [O Muhammad], "If you should love Allah , then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful."

a warning and perhaps a comfort

Surat Hūd (Hud) -117- سورة هود

Sahih International
And your Lord would not have destroyed the cities unjustly while their people were reformers.

Follow evil deeds with good deeds

Surat Hūd (Hud) -114- سورة هود

Sahih International
And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approach of the night. Indeed, good deeds do away with misdeeds. That is a reminder for those who remember.

He does what he wishes and to whom he wishes

Surat 'Āli `Imrān (Family of Imran)- 73- سورة آل عمران

Sahih International
He selects for His mercy whom He wills. And Allah is the possessor of great bounty.

Every nation has its share of black sheeps

Surat 'Āli `Imrān (Family of Imran)- 74- سورة آل عمران

Sahih International
And among the People of the Scripture is he who, if you entrust him with a great amount [of wealth], he will return it to you. And among them is he who, if you entrust him with a [single] silver coin, he will not return it to you unless you are constantly standing over him [demanding it]. That is because they say, "There is no blame upon us concerning the unlearned." And they speak untruth about Allah while they know [it].

Evidence that nothing but Islam will be accepted

Surat 'Āli `Imrān (Family of Imran)- 83 - 85 - سورة آل عمران

Sahih International
[3-83]So is it other than the religion of Allah they desire, while to Him have submitted [all] those within the heavens and earth, willingly or by compulsion, and to Him they will be returned?

[3-85]And whoever desires other than Islam as religion - never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.

Spend of what you love the most

Surat 'Āli `Imrān (Family of Imran)- 92 - سورة آل عمران

Sahih International
Never will you attain the good [reward] until you spend [in the way of Allah ] from that which you love. And whatever you spend - indeed, Allah is Knowing of it.
