Swiss (7): Aletsch

This was the highlight of the whole trip!! This Aletsch Glacier is the largest glacier in Alps and looking at it is truly awe inspiring.

To get to it, you have to first get to Fiesch, by car or by train. From here, you can take the cable car to Fiescheralp all the way to Eggishorn (for the best view of the glacier). This return ticket is around 43 Euros (if i remember it correctly).

Once you get to Fiescheralp you change the cable car to go to Eggishorn. If you have some decent shoes, this is the BEST place to hike. You can hike from either Eggishorn or Fiescheralp, there are many routes. A very good guide is found on this website: Hiking Aletsch. Please do check the weather before you travel. Official website for Fiesch-Fiescheralp.

If you don't have a lot of time or you are not the hiking-type like me, hiking to Bettmeralp from Fiescheralp is a must. Bettmeralp is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and enjoys crystal clear mountains and air. There is no other way to get to this place except by hiking or by a cable car. The oneway hike is about 1 hr and it is a very pleasant hike. While hiking to Bettmeralp, you'll have the best views of the Alps on your left (even matterhorn can be seen) and you probably will catch a glimpse of cows and mountain goats on the way.

Great photos. I especially love the cows on the hilltop. The Aletschgletscher is amazing. I guide hikers in the Alps with Alpenwild every summer and we always visit the top of the glacier at the Jungfraujoch.
