Swiss (10): Interlaken

On our last day, we headed to the beautiful city of Interlaken.

From Sion, (or the Rhone valley), there are two ways to drive to Interlaken. Either go all the way from Geneva, or you can put you car on a train and ride through the tunnel!

All you have to do it head out to Kandersteg and take the Tunnel. One way fare is around 25 Euros, believe me it will cost you more if decide to drive all the way there.

The tunnel drops you to Goppenstein.

On this side of the Alps, there major attraction is the train ride to Jungfraujoch. This is exactly the other side of the Aletsch Glacier!

We planned to go to this mountain peak, and drove to the train station in Lauterbrunnen. The return ticket was 107 Euros (more than 200 Euros for the both of us)!! (Some more info: RailEurope; Jungfraujoch-Top of Europe)

(Train station in Lauterbrunnen)

Interlaken is situated between two lakes, hence the name. You can found more about the city on WikiTravels. This is not a bad place to shop for souvenirs. We bought some here, including Swiss army knives. The best place is to got: "Swiss Knife Center" (Höheweg 125)

(outside Interlaken)

TIP:
You can find the Indian/Pakistani food here, but they are very expensive. We found one near the above mentioned souvenir shop and it cost us around 40 Euros and we ate mostly vegetarian dishes! The restaurant was indian owned and serving alcohol, so be careful.
